Dipl. Audiovisuelle Medien Thomas Hawranke

Vita

Thomas Hawranke is a media artist, and researches at his installations and laboratories the effects of technology on society. He studied media arts at the Kunsthochschule für Medien Köln and undergoes a promoting degree since 2013 at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar in the field of artistic research in computer games. He is a member of the artistic group susigames since 2006, with both national and international presence, such as the You@KZM, File Festival Sao Paulo, File Hame Festival Rio de Janeiro and WIRED – NextFest in Los Angeles. With susigames, he was for many years guest artist at the Zentrum für Kunst- und Medientechnologie Karlsruhe (ZKM), with a scolarship for artistic research in computer games. He became a founding member of the Paidia Institute in 2009, with the main focus areas of computer games as form of art. With Paidia Institute, he is constantly at international conferences, workshops and expositions, the artistic group work was also shown, among other expositions, at the transmediale 12 im Berlin, at the ZKM_Gameplay in Karlsruhe and at the “Schwindel der Wirklichkeit” exposition at the Akademie der Künste in Berlin. Thomas Hawranke did also curate and produce expositions at the Dortmunder U (Computer games – perspectives of play), at the Temporary Gallery (PAUSE – Computer games and cultural contingencies) and at different project spaces (We, animals – transference; Meinblau, Berlin; I know, you know – an audiovisual dialogue, Werkleitz Festival, Halle). He published artistic-scientific texts in different formats (most actual product: Animal Studies, Neofelis Editorials, Berlin) and held expositions at different higher education institutions with the topic of artistic research in computer games and approach strategies as artistic praxis.

He is an artistic-scientific employee in the fields of arts and transmedia spaces at the Kunsthochschule für Medien Köln. There, he offers seminars about psychogeography, artistic research and computer games as material. During the basic courses, he offers the fundamentals of installations and space-oriented, artistic work.

Thomas Hawranke ist actually a teacher for the seminar of “artistic creation”.
