TruNet – Digitale Inhalte einfach und sicher austauschen

Duration: 2015-2017

Sponsorship: Bundesministerium für Wirtschaft und Energie (BMWI)

Contact person: M.Sc. Lin Wan

Date security and privacy in the Internet has gathered increasing awareness in recent years, especially after the global surveillance disclosures from the NSA.

Together with the company expeer GmbH from Bonn, the University of Siegen is developing a software based on Peer-to-peer (P2P) technology for users to share data directly between private computers. P2P means that data travels directly from one computer to another – without being saved in servers in the middle. By saving data only locally and sharing directly from the computer, user has always the full control of it. This software will first be available for Windows, Mac, and Linux. And later it will be available for Tablet and Smartphone.

In addition to the security perspective, the project also focuses on the design of an application that is easy to use. For this reason, understanding the user needs is the key to the success of the project. The interdisciplinary team of University of Siegen esteem our users as experts and co-designers in the design process. Together, we want to learn more about how our users take use of existing services (such as Whatsapp, Facebook) and discover where and how our technology finds its best fit. We work closely and long-term with our users, conducting interviews, workshops, and focus groups to gather user feedback. Please don’t hesitate to contact us to get more information about the project or our team!
