Education under Severe Pressure:
Discussing about Academic Life in the West Bank
On Thursday, 16th of January at 8 pm, a Professor of the Birzeit University, Birzeit, West Bank will give a talk to explore the current situation of academic institutions in the West Bank (US-F 103).
With a decade-long research collaboration now under severe pressure following the Hamas attack on Israel on October 7, this talk will explore the current situation of Birzeit University. It is characterized by massive economic down-turn, frozen funds, travel restrictions, and an ongoing violence which impacts the lives of Palestinians in the West Bank.
The talk also covers the restrictions in the West Bank that faculty, staff, and students face on a daily basis, as well as the broader challenges of conducting academic work and international collaboration under the current constraints. In addition, the Professor will report on an innovative approach of tele-teaching currently employed by Birzeit University to support students in Gaza whose academic institutions have been destroyed.
This event was designed for academics, students, and members of civil society who are interested in the academic and cultural life of the West Bank. It should contribute to the understanding of the complex conditions of academic institutions and collaborations under the current conditions.
